Our Theory of Change
IRO believes that sustainable change begins with people and communities.
When communities have access to knowledge, skills, opportunities, networks and meaningful spaces for participation, they are better able to identify the challenges affecting their lives, develop locally appropriate solutions and take collective action.
When youth, women, educators, journalists, community groups and other underserved actors are empowered to participate, their voices and solutions can influence wider community practices, institutions and public decision-making.
When community knowledge and evidence are connected with research, technology, innovation, media and policy dialogue, local initiatives can move beyond individual projects and contribute to broader social, environmental and institutional change.
Therefore, IRO works to create a continuous pathway:
Knowledge → Capacity → Participation → Innovation → Collective Action → Institutional Influence → Sustainable Change
