Thematic Areas

IRO Organization, alongside many civil society organizations across the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and the wider Iraq, is actively working to address a range of critical and rapidly escalating challenges that require immediate and coordinated action. Among the most pressing issues are climate change and the urgent need for both adaptation and mitigation measures, as well as growing environmental threats such as water and air pollution, unmanaged landfills, and their increasing impact on major urban centers.

The organization is also engaged in responding to the rising frequency of sandstorms, protecting biodiversity, and promoting conservation efforts to safeguard natural ecosystems. Recognizing the gaps in long-term government planning, IRO supports stronger implementation of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and other national strategies designed to enhance resilience against climate risks. Through advocacy, community engagement, and collaborative initiatives, IRO focuses on practical solutions that contribute to environmental sustainability and support a healthier, more resilient future for communities across the region.
