Exploring the Health Implications of Climate Change: World Health Day Event
IRO Organization, in partnership with The Human Network, hosted a special event on April 7 in celebration of World Health Day to examine the impacts of climate change on human health and well-being
The workshop brought together representatives from civil society organizations and government institutions working on climate-related issues, alongside academics, environmental experts, civil society leaders, and relevant public officials.
The event aimed to highlight the interdisciplinary links between climate hazards and public health, emphasizing the growing risks faced by communities. The program opened with a presentation by Dr. Ali Arif, lecturer and researcher at KISSR, who addressed how individuals are exposed to environmental risk factors in their homes, workplaces, and surrounding communities. His presentation focused on air and water pollution, radiation exposure, chemical substances, agricultural practices, and climate change. Particular attention was given to particulate matter (PM), its composition, and the role of physical characteristics in increasing health risks.

Preparing Youth for Community
Climate Action and Resilience
The IRO Organization organized a capacity-building workshop for youth groups aimed at strengthening their role in implementing community-based climate initiatives. The workshop focused on climate adaptation and mitigation, promoting green job opportunities, and raising public awareness about urgent climate challenges. Special attention was given to enhancing youth preparedness to design and implement projects, develop effective action plans, and respond to climate-related risks, including recent flooding in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
Participants also discussed strategies to build community resilience and integrate climate considerations into local initiatives. The workshop highlighted the importance of youth-led action in addressing climate change at the local level. IRO Organization continues to rely on district-based youth groups as key partners in implementing sustainable initiatives that support climate resilience and community development.

Advancing Climate Justice: Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue Defines Climate Action Priorities in Iraq
The Climate Change Defenders Program (CCDP) group, led by the IRO Organization and implemented in partnership with The Human Network, organized a multi-stakeholder event aimed at developing a practical roadmap for climate justice advocacy. The event brought together academics, environmentalists, and civil society leaders to examine the impacts of climate change on different aspects of human life, with a particular focus on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Participants began with an analysis of the current climate context, identifying key environmental challenges, vulnerabilities, and their effects on local communities. Discussions also mapped relevant stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society organizations, local communities, and international actors, highlighting their roles in climate action. The workshop explored potential interventions such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, water management, and climate education. Outcomes from the discussions will inform a draft climate justice advocacy roadmap, which will be reviewed by partners, published, and integrated into the CCDP to guide future advocacy efforts.
